Frances (right) and Alta received these dolls for Christmas. Because their family was poor, they did not have many purchased items, especially toys, which made these dolls even more special. According to Frances, they were hard dolls with painted-on hair and movable joints. In this picture, taken by their older sister Gladys, Frances and Alta are posed on the running board of a car. Frances notes that this picture was taken on a Sunday, because they only wore ribbons in their hair for church on Sundays.
